What makes Guardian Systems security systems different from traditional security systems?

  1. Guardian Systems makes security systems that are not phone line dependant. That means your security system will work whether you have Vonage, satellite phone, a traditional landline, cell phone or no phone line at all. Guardian Systems security systems send all alarms and other signals through cellular towers. The messages then weave through our secure server. As soon as your Guardian Systems system is powered up, it starts communicating with all of the local wireless towers in your area, similar to how your cell phone works.
  2. Since Guardian Systems security systems send signals wirelessly, your system is more secure than other systems that use the phone line or hard wired sensors to report alarms. Even if an intruder cuts your phone line and power, your Guardian Systems security system will still be able to report alarms. Most people who have traditional security don't realize how vulnerable the system is to line cuts.
  3. Guardian Systems firmly believes that a loud siren or horn may not stop a thief. We have integrated what we believe is the most unique and best technology into our security systems. There is no phone line required and no additional phone or service that you need to provide (the monthly monitoring fee covers your service). We also have no setup or installation fees. We feel that our products are customer installable. We give you the option to find someone to install the system.

Can I install your systems myself?
Yes, because there is minimal wiring (with the exception of The Guardian System which is extremely simple to install), installation consists of simply placing the security system of your choice and wireless devices with screws in the locations of your choice. The only wiring to do is for power, the LED indicator, and the horn/siren (if ordered). All sensors are pre-programmed to the your unit as ordered.

How do I know exactly what I need?
You need to analyze your situation. Some questions that you can ask yourself are: What locations do I want to monitor? How many locations do I want to monitor? Where are most prevalent threats located? In some situations, it is better to have an infrared sensor than multiple intrusion sensors. Do I need to monitor for smoke or temperature? What do I need to feel confident about the security of my property? These are just a few questions to help you decide on what sensors you would like to have installed on your unit. Guardian Systems is here to provide you with honest appraisals of your security needs. We will be happy to discuss your situation with you. Give us a call at (920) 769-0066 or email us at sales@guardianwireless.com. We respond to emails within 24 hours with the exception of weekends and holidays. We pride ourselves in the phrase "customers come first".

Can I have a siren/horn added to my security system?
This applies to Marine Guardian®, RV Guardian®, Contractor Guardian™, Global Marine Guardian®, Global RV Guardian® and Global Contractor Guardian™. Yes, our systems are equiped to handle a siren/horn of up to 2 Amperes at 12 volts DC. Our security systems' default packages do not come with a siren/horn but we can add a siren/horn for your particular system. However, we are unable to program a siren/horn to The Guardian System™? or Tool Guardian™. The siren/horn is programmed to sound for 30 seconds when any sensor is triggered. It can be shut off sooner by disarming the system. Also, the siren/horn is hardwired into the system, so plan to spend extra time installing. For siren/horn details please visit our store.

How long will it take to receive my unit?
Our minimum time for programming a unit is one week with shipping (maximum of two weeks). We make our units on order with the exception of The Guardian System™ and Tool Guardian™. Customers normally request us to customize a security system to meet their specific needs (see our customization page for more details), therefore, we do not make our systems ahead of time as it is better to develop them upon request.

How do I enter my contact phone numbers, emails, and SMS text message recipients?
In order to enter your contact numbers you need to log on to your secure account. To log on to our secure site choose 'Members Log On' from the menu at the top of the page and select the unit that applies to your situation. Enter your username and password found in the letter that was sent with your unit. If you do not know your username and password, please contact us. Next, go to 'preferences'. At the bottom of the page there is a section where you can enter your contact information. Remember that the numbers called in the order you enter them. Also, make sure to check the check box next to the ones you wish to use before clicking the update button to enter them into our system. See our online demonstration or demonstration portfolio (.pdf).

Why does my security system constantly send alarms?
If you are moving in your RV or yacht then the system should be disarmed. When you arm the unit, it activates all the sensors including loss of power and GeoFence (for global units), unless you requested they not be installed (see customization). If you have your intrusion sensors more than 3/8" (inch) apart, you may receive false intrusion alarms. If none of these situations apply to you, call our friendly customer support team at 920-769-0066. We are happy to resolve any issues you might have.

How do I connect my siren/horn to the security system?
There are two post on your main unit, and three wires on the horn/siren. On the back of the horn/siren there is sticker that states yelping (+), common (-) and steady (+). You need to connect the common (-) wire to the terminal marked -Horn on your unit. Then chose between yelping (+) and steady (+). Connect the one you choose to the +Horn terminal. You may wire up to 2 Amperes of horns in parallel on the terminals. This would be 2 large horn/sirens or 5 small horn/sirens from our store. Connecting this many horns, however, could be very noisy.

What does the Loss of Power sensor do?
Loss of Power senses loss of AC Power. It is especially useful to a yacht that has AC outlets that directly operate off of the shore power cord. It is built to monitor your property, not the security system power, since in most cases the security system is hooked up directly to a battery. You simply plug in the Loss of Power sensor to an outlet that you wish to have monitored. With the Loss of Power your property will not loose power without notifying you. We are able to uninstall this option (see customization for details).

What is GeoFence?
Guardian Systems has the ability to set an invisible circle around your property. For example, if you own a yacht or RV and you arm the security system, an invisible circle is set around your yacht or RV based on the current GPS coordinates. The default radius is one quarter of a mile. If your yacht or RV drifts or moves out of the quarter mile radius invisible circle, you will receive an alarm called a GeoFence Alarm.

What is the difference between your regular and global security systems?
Our global units will operate around the globe whereas our regular units will only operate in the United States. With our regular units, service is dependent on the availability of GSM cellular service, much like cell phones. With our global units, service is available as long as you have a clear view of one of four geo-stationary satellites anchored by gravity to the Equator. You will need a clear view of the southern sky from the Northern hemisphere, and a clear view of the northern sky from the Southern hemisphere. Coverage is only available between the Arctic and Antartic circles. If you are interested in learning more or placing an advanced order please contact us.

Do I purchase a regular or global security systems?
That depends on your situation. For example, if you have an RV and you use that RV in very remote areas where your personal cell phone does not get service, then it may be wise to go with a global system. Another example would be a yacht that is used primarily for globe trotting. Again, you would want to use a global system. Basically, any use of our systems with good GSM cellular coverage will be an excellent candidate for our less expensive regular systems. For more details, please contact us.

How long do the batteries last in the sensors?
We recommend that you check the batteries every six months and replace the batteries as needed to help prevent sensor failure. Note that The Guardian System™ and Tool Guardian™ have an internal, rechargable back-up battery in the main unit itself but not in the sensors. Replacement batteries are available in our online store, or you can contact us if you need replacement batteries.

Can I have GPS or Power Loss removed?
Guardian Systems offers units with or without GPS. Not having GPS will usually make the base unit cheaper. Power Loss (and it's marine variant, Shorepower) can be removed from most systems, except for The Guardian System, where this feature is too far integrated to be removed.

Do your systems need a land line in order to complete calls?
No, our systems are based off the cellular towers and satellites. No land line is required. That is the technology of Guardian Systems. Our systems can call any phone number with the exception of 911, since there is no live person on the line. Once you receive an alarm you can take proper action.

Will your systems call satellite phones?
Yes, our systems will call any phone number that you can call normally through a land line.

How far do the sensor signals reach?
Most of our sensors should reach 100-200 feet indoors, and 300-500 feet outdoors (open air range) within the main unit. One way to over come 100-200 feet would be to use repeaters. Repeaters simply listen for the signal and pass the signal on to the main unit. These are ideal for construction sites. With a repeater you can gain an extra 600 feet (nominal), thus increasing your coverage area. For additional details on purchasing please contact us.

If I decide to buy now can I add sensors or a horn/siren later?
Yes. For units purchased after November 1st, 2008, you can do the installation yourself. Instructions will be issued along with the new sensor or siren. For units purchased prior to November 1st, 2008, contact us at 1-920-769-0066 to inquire as to the availabiltiy of this feature on your unit.

What is the current draw of your security system?
Our cellular systems consume a resting rate of 150 milliamps and have a maximum draw of 1.25 amps during transmission. The satellite units consume between 175 to 200 milliamps and approximately 1 amp during transmission. The Guardian System only consumes power while charging, at about 500 milliamps maximum for about two or three hours. The number of charge cycles during a normal day will vary depending on the options purchased.

What is the Analogue Sunset?
The analogue sunset refers to the date after which the AMPS cellular network will no longer function. This date was set at February 18th, 2008.

How does the analogue sunset affect my unit?
If you purchased a regular unit prior to May of 2007, you may have received one of the analogue systems. To determine this, open up your control box and see if there is a circuit board attached to the lid. If this is the case, you have an analogue system. These systems may continue to work up to 1 year after the sunset date. This is the planned phase out date for all analogue tower systems. In order to continue uninterrupted service with Guardian Systems, please call us at 1-920-769-0066 to inquire about our upgrade options.
